
Jazmine was born and raised within Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam her mom was a former backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. As a child the father of her was chosen to the position of one of the cities' Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. Their family eventually moved into this historic building. The 2005 graduate of Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts where she was the vocal music instructor. Sullivan played the contralto singer for the youth choir, and after a few years was a part of the adult choir. Sullivan's exposure to secular music was initially minimal "I was doing solos in church and someone wanted me to be a part of gospel labels when I was 11, but I was not prepared to sign that contract," she recalls. "Then the time came that McDonald's offered a competition to children in cities of the world I had the opportunity to sing 'Accept What God Does' on Showtime at the Apollo and the audience was very enthusiastic". She performed with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday party at thirteen. Sullivan was the first to sign her contract with Jive Records when she was fifteen. When she was 15 the label signed her to Jive Records. She recorded an entire album there, but the album wasn't made available for release. Sullivan was eventually removed from the label. Missy Elliott was the producer for a few tracks in her debut album. One of them was "Backstabbers" from Timbaland the song that Elliott wrote, was a hit.
